Investigation of Bluetooth Low Energy and WiFi for M2M and Mesh Networking

Bluetooth is very well known for its plethora of applications. Bluetooth operates at low power and is usually recommended for low range & low data rate operations. Though, the latest versions of Bluetooth support high data rates, one of the relatively less explored area of application is the Bluetooth Mesh Networking. Bluetooth Mesh Networks may find applications in scenarios where a number of nodes are supposed to coordinate with each other in sharing and forwarding of data. One other name that comes very often in talks related to Mesh Networking is Wi-Fi, though Bluetooth is more suited in some situations like Smart Home.  This project is aimed at the following key objectives

  1. Coordinated forwarding of Data

  2. Mesh Networking for Smart Home

The project shall start with rigorous literature review of the available applications that may include bigger networks of IEEE 802.15.4 and IEEE 802.11. After careful selection of hardware modules, establishment of point to point connection would be next objective. Establishment of M2M would be our next objective.

The project aims at delivering an application based on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Mesh Networking.
